Description
The lively and uneven lines, which are carved by hand by the Japanese artist Nobuyuki Takai, give this Linen Furoshiki a unique sense. There a no symmetric lines or shapes, they all have their individual character. Takai took his inspiration from knots with different expressions that are surrounded by stripes.
About the designer
Nobuyuki Takai is a disciple of Takeshi Yamauchi who used to be a disciple of the famous Keisuke Serizawa, a dyer designated as a living national treasure. Nobuyuki Takai is known for pattern dyeing and Tsutsu Gaki (one of the techniques of dye). The traits of his design are expressed in the lively lines and shapes of his work.
About the material
Linen prevents germs and bacteria from breeding because it has four times the hygroscopic nature that cotton does. Linen also dries faster, which gives bacteria less time to develop and forming bad odours. It is said that linen is the most durable fabric of all the natural fibres.
What is Furoshiki?
