Description
The Sumomo Matchawan celebrates tradition, vitality, and the art of matcha preparation with its thoughtful design. Featuring low walls and a wide base, this bowl is perfect for whisking matcha into the ideal froth, often referred to as “jasper mousse.” Its inspiration comes from the Japanese plum, or sumomo, a fruit deeply rooted in Japanese culture as a symbol of resilience and protection. Sumomo plums are believed to ward off evil spirits and illness, representing strength and harmony in everyday life. With every sip, the Sumomo Matchawan offers not just a connection to the rich traditions of matcha, but also a moment to reflect on your own strength and well-being.

Matchawan is a traditional bowl used in the Japanese tea ceremony and makes the matcha preparation very easy. When whisking matcha with a bamboo whisk (chasen) the tall vertical walls of the matchawan help to prevent the water from spilling. The broad bottom of the bowl makes it easy to whisk the powder smoothly inside and quickly obtain the perfect froth on the surface.
