Did you know?
The samurai warriors drank matcha as a natural energy drink when they headed out on expeditions. A cup of matcha contains half the caffeine of a cup of coffee but, thanks to L-theanine, its effects last for much longer. Matcha helps us concentrate and boosts energy but does not lead to the jittering effects associated with coffee. In addition, catechins contained in matcha have antibiotic qualities which strengthen our immune system.
Packed with antioxidants
Matcha contains the the highest concentration of natural antioxidant, which prevent the negative effects of free radicals on cells in your body. One cup of matcha is equal to 10 cups of regular green tea in terms of antioxidant and nutritional intake. That’s because when you drink matcha, you ingest the entire leaf and all its nutrients. For this reason, it is important to drink organic matcha which doesn’t contain any pesticide residue.
What is Matcha?
Matcha is powdered green tea obtained from tea plants that are specially shaded from direct sunlight before harvest. This results in higher chlorophyll and antioxidant contents and a richer, greener color. After harvesting the fresh leaves are steamed, dried and ground to powder in traditional mills. Contrary to regular brewed tea, when drinking matcha, you consume the entire tea leaf and this way provide your body all nutrients contained in the tea.
Where is Matcha from?
Matcha is grown in the Uji region of Kyoto Prefecture, known for the cultivation of highest quality green tea for over 800 years. The Uji region is famous for its fertile soils and clean water. The green tea plants there have ideal conditions for growth thanks to hills providing good sunlight, frequent mists that protect delicate leaves from frost and high amount of rainfall. Moya Matcha is meticulously cultivated and harvested on small family-owned organic tea fields. It is then processed locally in Japan and dispatched in small batches to assure peak freshness for all our grades. This helps preserve all the qualities of the tea leaf and maintain high levels of minerals and antioxidants.
